Dedication
Dedication of the new World War II memorial in front of the Homestead
Hotel, May 31, 1948. This replaced a much bigger wooden memorial sign that
included all of the men and women who served. The bronze plaque includes the
names of those that gave their lives. Joel Kovitz, the Boy Scout playing
taps on his trumpet, was in Troop 15. Joel lived on Talbot Street. He was
really good on the trumpet. Everybody knew that because his father made him
practice every day with his 2nd floor window wide open. Joel became an
accountant.
