What's New A Kew Gardens Christmas Card [Editor's Note: My apologies to Dan Friedmann and his father who submitted this card and the commentary back in October. I decided to publish them during the holiday season and then managed to lose track of them. Please forgive me.] "This was the artist's proof for a Xmas card designed by Konrad Wittman, a German architect and artist who came to the U.S. in the late 1940's and became the chairman of the Department of Interior Design at Pratt Institute where he changed what used to be Interior Decorating to a program in Interior Design. Wittman was a prolific artist as well as a great teacher and innovator. He and his wife lived in Kew Gardens in a fairly new apartment building corner Metropolitan Ave. and 118th St. ( diagonally across from where we lived )." ~Arnold Friedmann |
